Abstract
Vermont is located in the New England region of the United States. Vermont has a population of 621,254 people, making it the second least populous state in 2007. The state’s population increased by 12,427 people from 2000 to 2007, and is projected to increase to 703,288 people by 2025. This 0.7% projected annual growth rate is below the national average of 0.8%. From 2006 to 2007 the state’s population declined by 0.4%. Per capita personal income in Vermont was $37,446 in 2007, up from $34,623 in 2006. For 2007, this was $1,118 below the national average and the twenty-first highest in the country. The state’s per capita income grew at a compound annual rate of 4.4% from 2000 to 2007, compared to 3.7% nationally.
