Abstract
Iowa is located in the West North Central region of the United States. Iowa has a population of 3.0 million people, making it the twentyfirst least populous state in 2007. The state’s population increased by 61,723 people from 2000 to 2007, and is projected to increase only slightly by 2025. This is below the national average of the 0.8% projected growth. From 2006 to 2007 the state’s population grew by 0.2%. Per capita personal income in Iowa was $34,796 in 2007, up from $33,017 in 2006. For 2007, this was $3,768 below the national average and the twentieth lowest in the country. The state’s per capita income grew at a compound annual rate of 3.9% from 2000 to 2007, compared to 3.7% nationally.
