Abstract
With a population of 6.3 million people, Indiana was the fifteenth most populous state in the United States in 2007. From 2000 to 2007 the state’s population increased by 264,804 people, and is projected to increase to 6.7 million by 2025. This 0.3% projected annual growth rate compares to the projected national average of 0.8%. From 2006 to 2007 the state’s population grew by 0.5%. The state’s 2007 per capita personal income of $33,152 was higher compared to $32,226 in 2006 and the twelfth lowest in the United States, some $5,412 below the national average. Per capita income in Indiana grew at a compound annual rate of 2.9% from 2000 to 2007, compared to 3.7% nationally.
