Abstract
What happens in the United States of America has inevitable consequences for the rest of the world. Obviously then, presidential elections in the United States, the candidates, their agendas, and their foreign and domestic policies are bound to raise interest in various countries and their peoples across the world. Once every four years, the world watches American democracy in action with a renewed chance for hope and change.
I would like to acknowledge and thank my graduate student research assistant Christiane Peuker for researching the French print media database for articles that dealt with the US elections. Since March 2008 to January, Ms. Peuker was able to compile 1000 articles from a broad spectrum of French newspapers and magazines. I would also like to acknowledge the contribution of Stephane Monrocq who helped me with some French translations and for productive discussions about the French political system.
