Women are half of a social world that is itself divided by the practices and representations of economics, politics and civil society. Not one of these exists in a vacuum. It is for purposes of analysis that each can be treated separately, that is, abstracted from its environment. But in real life they are intricately related and it is important, in conclusion, to recognise this: to show how the parts relate to one another and to the whole.
