Abstract
This chapter discusses the finance industry and considers labour’s situation within it. As noted in Part I the role of ‘global finance’ is central to many characterisations of the new economy and of labour’s decline. The chapter briefly puts recent changes in historical context and outlines the transition from the ‘Bretton Woods’ system to contemporary liberalised finance.
