Abstract

It has become something of a commonplace that global restructuring in the late 20th century had disastrous consequences for workers. There has been, as Munck writes, ‘a huge structural transformation of the position of labour worldwide over the last twenty years’ (1998: 1). However, this has more often been asserted than investigated.
