Abstract
Businesses today are competing in a challenging global context. The climate crisis, resource scarcity, and other social and environmental issues are dramatically altering the business landscape. To change how we produce and consume, we must sever the link between economic growth and the consumption of natural resources; the circular economy shows us how. Companies must reject the “take, make, waste” linear approach in favor of keeping products and resources in use for as long as possible and, at end of use, cycling (or “looping”) their components and materials back into the system in zero-waste value chains, inviting opportunities for new markets and innovative products and services. The circular advantage offers business a way to not just balance but positively connect and reinforce the three foundational components of Accenture’s framework of competitive agility: growth and customers, profitability, and sustainability and trust. The Circular Economy Handbook is a practical guide to support executives with useful strategies and actionable insights, key learnings, and case studies.
