Abstract
The third chapter aims to provide the western reader with a clear explanation of particular traits of Argentine culture that contribute to the high level of corruption and a strong disregard for the rule of law. It sheds light on authoritarian practices, populism and the so-called ‘viveza criolla’, a way of reading a particular situation to take an individual advantage, responding to the paradigm ‘I win, you lose’. The chapter explores the possible reasons for the high tolerance to the corruption that Argentine society seems to have, and the permanent fight to get the economy going.
