Abstract

Many adolescents experience personal challenges involving medical and behavioral health concerns including substance abuse and addictions. Treatment for these challenges occurs in outpatient and inpatient settings through personal, group, and family counseling. Mindfulness-based interventions are often offered as an aspect of treatment in these settings and the number of these interventions has steadily increased. Thus, this chapter examines the research about opportunities and benefits derived from mindfulness-based interventions for adolescents in these diverse settings. A case example illustrates the application of a mindfulness-based program for adolescents in a behavioral health setting.
