Abstract

In this final chapter, Lewis offers a conclusion and emphasizes the critical need for teacher education programs across the country to understand and embrace the role of race and class in teacher preparation. Lewis provides strategies for teacher education programs to be utilized and integrated into coursework and clinical experiences for preservice teachers. Given the need for more well-prepared teachers in high poverty urban schools, the findings of this book will challenge teacher preparation programs to incorporate more effective boundary crossing experiences for middle and upper class preservice teachers.
