Introduction. Inequalities in the Creative City: A New Perspective on an Old Phenomenon

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Inequalities in Creative Cities

Abstract

This chapter anchors the book in providing some introductory thoughts for a series of critical interventions into the central concepts of creativity, knowledge growth, and inequality. It brings these concepts to bear on the current “ordinary” city of the global west. Our definitions and critical issues raised flow out of a conceptual commitment to urban political economy and its sensitivity to class and racial struggle, dialectical change, and relational constitution of the world, which will be discussed from different perspectives and with different case studies in the book.
