Abstract
This chapter analyzes crime and spy stories set during the terrorism era of the 1970s that is the Years of Lead. Pezzotti argues that this renewed interest for this dark period of Italian history has been spurred by a post-11 September climate. In general, the conspiracy theme in these novels responds to a need of providing a counter-history against the official history that has never been able to satisfactorily explain some pivotal events in Italian (and international) contemporary history. Pezzotti also argues that of the post-11 September crime film output set in the Years of Lead, cable TV series are arguably the most accomplished and become a show-case for a re-evaluation of this format in the study of the intersection between history and film.
