Abstract
This chapter uses examples from perception to arrive at the notion of ad aliquid, a term used formally to describe the proto-constitution of any real relation. Instances of such constitution are given from both Western and Eastern philosophy. Thus, on the one hand, Aquinas’s notion of the proportionality between a primary and a secondary analogate is described in detail. Then, on the other hand, the notion of the timeless significance of ritualistic symbolism in religious dancing is employed to bring out instances of ad aliquid in Eastern schools of thought.
