Abstract

What happens when religion is used to inspire and motivate rebellion, insurrection, and even revolution? This chapter explores the themes of religion, authority, and the state through engaging in a case study of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland, particularly with regard to the faith and writings of its primary leader, Patrick Pearse.
