Abstract

Here, I summarize and discuss the main findings from each chapter of the book. I focus on what the data showed regarding first heroin use, the impact of heroin, and the role of subculture and identity. I discuss the similarities and differences of these issues between actors and comedians, and also between the actor and comedian samples with the musician samples from my book on New York City-based musicians. This study confirms that as was true for musicians, as shown in my study of heroin and music, heroin misuse by actors and by comedians are also subcultural matters. I also discuss the main findings from Chap. 4 and how these findings contribute to the knowledge base on drugs, film, and theatre. I propose that this study adds to the knowledge base in a number of areas within sociology. I also suggest some follow-up studies addressing the heroin—performing connection.
