Abstract

This chapter introduces, from Lisa Kramer’s perspective, concepts about arts, education community-based learning, and the role theatre has played in social justice and change. The chapter includes an explanation about the spectrum of “drama education-applied theatre-drama therapy” written by drama therapist Sally Bailey. Lisa also explains the roots of our projects, and how it has changed over time. She then discusses her approach toward process versus product. Finally, the chapter turns to specific educational theories, including universal design for learning, and how theatre meets educational goals.
