Abstract
Ogawa and Tsuchiya describe an adaptation of the Storycenter approach to Digital Storytelling (DS) to take account of different cultural circumstances and narrative traditions from the western models upon which DS workshops and stories are generally based. They present their “pre-story” space work in Japan, in which “everyday people” went through a “story weaving” model, in which well-known games such as “karuta” were used to stimulate story generation through developing “story seeds”. The authors also draw upon forms such as the haiku and the way in which the workshops lead to collaborative development of stories, rather than having an individual focus.
