Abstract
This chapter takes a closer look at the supernatural and religious symbolism within Castillo’s novel. Beginning with La Loca and moving through the circumstances and descriptions of each of the other three daughters, this chapter suggests that the spiritual vision enacted through the “ill-fated” daughters actually points toward a revisionist perspective on the sacred symbols of Catholicism. The chapter outlines how La Loca is actually symbolic herself of a centering healing that is both spiritual and material.
