Abstract
With reported global revenues of 330 million Norwegian krone (US$56 million) in 2013, StormGeo is now an international company employing over 320 staff in 22 offices located across 14 countries. The success of StormGeo in becoming an international leader in the provision of private weather forecasting services in a country better known for its high cost of living and prohibitive taxes puts to question many of our established assumptions on what makes a place business-friendly. Not only did StormGeo achieve international success out of Norway, but it did so out of Norway’s relatively isolated second city, Bergen, known for its heavy rain and for being sealed in by seven surrounding mountains. How did Siri Kalvig succeed against the adversaries of geography and a socioeconomic system that is entrenched in deeply rooted socialism?
