Abstract
The object of this chapter is to ground the topics of drink spiking and predatory drugging in a recognition of the formidable history of the concern, as well as the varieties of motivations possible for people engaged in chemical gerrymandering of another’s reality. Further, I preview the argument that both myth and reality regarding the topic are inextricably bound up with alcohol and with the vast pharmacopeia that we have come to rely on.

As improved as such sciences are, any extrapolation from them depends on our inferences about the representativeness of their samples. People who report suspicion that they were drugged are a subsample of something—but we are just not sure what.
