Abstract
This comment considers Karamessini and Rubery 2015 paper (Chapter 3 of this volume, henceforth KR) and assesses its continued relevance to our understanding of the macroeconomy in 2016. The essay argues that the KR framework is still quite relevant even eight years beyond the beginning of the Great Recession. The author argues that more emphasis should be placed by KR on the connections between the crisis and austerity on the one hand and changing power relations on the other and an exploration of alternative institutions, such as employment in the social and solidarity economy (SSE) and the collaborative economy.
