This lecture is the third and final installment of Locke’s comprehensive presentation of an accurate demographic depiction of African Americans in the United States. Locke, not only describes the type and scope of achievements made in various fields by African Americans in the United States, he also clarifies the general trends of social advancement they are pursuing. Locke provides an exhaustive list of various accomplishments by African American artists, writers, musicians, business owners, and civic and religious leaders, and he also takes care to explain the significance in the larger national culture of these achievements, their effect on the conditions he earlier described, and the future prospects of the Afrodescendant people in the United States.
