Abstract
This chapter analyzes excerpts from learned Sufi texts (i.e. treatises, tafsir, and letters) with regard to their discussion of the spiritual jihad (i.e. greater jihad) and the development of specific terminology in this regard. This chapter concludes that learned Sufi texts consistently employ the verbal noun mujahada to refer to the spiritual jihad, rather than using the term jihad.
