Abstract
This chapter looks at external corporate communication from the perspective of the relatively new genre of quarterly earnings conference calls. It also presents the findings of the quantitative and lexico-semantic analysis of a corpus compiled from the transcripts of the earnings calls of 35 high-tech companies over a period of at least four financial quarters per company. In the process, the main semantic domains in the data set are identified and discussed in relation to the most frequent words and keywords, and their meaning in the context of external communications targeting investor relations. Finally, there is a brief comparison of the frequency of the top keywords with three selected corpora.
