Abstract

This chapter brings together the partial results provided in each chapter on the lobbying strategies of Western interest groups in China:

  • Western interest groups apply strategies that reflect American and European lobbying practices in China rather than Chinese or corporatist lobbying actions;

  • Are truly membership-driven organisations;

  • Have a preference for non-confrontational lobbying strategies, such as through membership mobilisation;

  • Target Western policymakers most frequently (venue shift);

  • Pursue pluralist avenues within China’s corporatist system.
