Abstract
This chapter explores the relationship between creative learning methods utilized in the arts and education by focusing on a dance educational experience in Cairo. In 2014, groundbreaking training of dance trainers titled SEEDS took place in Egypt. The author was involved in this experiment and conducted a session on dance transmission. She used a creative tool developed by a Belgian-Moroccan choreographer to engage the trainees in a reflexive attitude toward their teaching. By means of a qualitative research method, this chapter describes the multilayered teaching-learning process this artistic device activated. It presents a case study on applied phenomenology reflecting on concepts of deterritorialization and embodied knowledge in arts education can be discussed. This chapter is intended to broaden further research on arts-based and research-informed dance education and its impacts in Egypt and neighboring Arab countries.
