Abstract
In this chapter, I begin with the news that I was going to have a baby sister, the joys and excitement and planning in my head and all of the things we could do as we grew up together. Little did I know how much my life was to change. The aim of this chapter is to tell my story of being a sister to Beth, someone who is diagnosed with learning disabilities and complex needs. Once I began to understand and respect Beth for who she is, I found many ways to be her sister and my life changed forever. This chapter is not about my sister, it is my story about how I have changed my thinking about myself, family, childhood and disability. If it were not for my sister, I would not be who I am today.
