Abstract
This chapter introduces a brief historical overview of media and communications technologies. It discusses the role of technologization and automation in human entanglement with the worlds of the present but also of the past and the future. Based on the general framework laid out in Chap. 1, this chapter further elaborates the theoretical-practical approaches, develops the logics of Aby Warburg’s Mnemosyne Atlas, and adopts the Ancient Greek idea of acousmatics for the digital age. Following this, the author situates the discussion on memory, media, and technology within the debate on the question of the future and the issues related to the turning to the past to find a vision for the future.
