Abstract

In this chapter, the editors discuss and synthesise the analyses presented in the chapters, and elaborate on what they consider to be the most important findings, both as regards the European context and in relation to ongoing theoretical discussions on gender equality and citizenship. By combining empirically and theoretically informed perspectives on gender equality and citizenship, the book identifies national variations, as well as commonalities across Europe. The volume pinpoints important similarities between different national and cultural contexts, demonstrating how policies, values and practices regarding gender equality and citizenship are produced and made legitimate, how they contribute to majoritising and minoritising processes, how these processes are negotiated, and—on the micro level—how agency is enacted.
