Abstract
This chapter depicts what has happened in China on higher education (HE), during these recent decades, in the context of internationalization and quality movement in Asian-Pacific region. Generally speaking, China shares the same trend as many other Asian countries, while having its own characteristics in reforming its HE system for the purpose of increasing the access and improving the quality of HE. This chapter gives a special focus on the impact of globalization and social transition on the HE system and how the system responded to the rapidly changing society. It also describes some of the major challenges and national strategies in developing HE in China for the future.
