Abstract

This chapter begins with a brief extract from an interdisciplinary meeting that illustrates some key themes in the book, then moves on to highlight the relative neglect of communication in studies of interdisciplinary research despite a claim by the US National Academies that this lies at the heart of interdisciplinarity. The chapter concludes with an overview of the book.
