Abstract

The chapter first sets out the methodologies (quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods) available for researching the elusive concept of creativity, which can be measured only indirectly. These are then discussed in detail with reference to creativity research. Quantitative methods are discussed with reference to the Torrance test and its variations. This is followed by a description of different forms of linguistic measurement and tools, such as surveys, questionnaires and classroom observation. Under qualitative methods, we present and discuss interviews, focus group discussions, semiotic analysis and critical discourse analysis. The key role of coding in qualitative research is emphasised.
