Abstract
We begin by setting out our reasons for writing the book: belief in the centrality of creativity to learning. Creativity is widely praised but rarely implemented. It is also difficult to define. There follows an overview of the book: Part 1 is an overview of work in the field from creativity theory through educational, applied linguistics, language methodology to practical applications. Part 2 focuses on teachers: defining creative teachers, becoming a creative person, developing creative teacher training. Part 3 presents prerequisites for creative classrooms and offers some frameworks and principles for materials design. Part 4 deals with aspects of research: general issues, existing research, network analysis and suggestions for further research.
