Abstract
This chapter explores different issues relating to the understanding of the Public Service Interpreters’ (PSIs’) expectations of Public Service Interpreting; training and education options for CPD; and gaining experience and employment. It also analyses the needs of the end users of Public Service Interpreters, focusing on how to use PSIs to maximise their value; how to contract the right PSIs; and how to provide guidance and appropriate working conditions. From an overview of the way Language Service Providers (LSP) contract Public Service Interpreters, this chapter will propose a framework for how to select, recruit, train and manage Public Service Interpreters by setting up key performance indicators, seeking to gain and keep clients.
