Abstract

This chapter discusses repetition as a methodology at work in relation to meaning, pleasure, and shape. It identifies specific functions of repetition in the works of Gertrude Stein, Samuel Beckett, Yvonne Rainer, and Trisha Brown. The writings of Stein and Beckett, as well as Judson’s innovations in movement, have influenced contemporary performance, discussed in this book, and this writing.
