Abstract

This chapter considers China’s approaches to development and presents a summation of the arguments made in Chapters 9 and 10 by responding to the questions: Is China’s approach to development discernibly different from the West? Is China ‘exporting’ its model for development? Is this evidence of its shift to trying to create normative challenges? This chapter outlines the argument that China, in the area of international development, is acting as a norm entrepreneur, challenging specific elements within the Liberal approach using new institutions, new populations and reinterpreting existing liberal norms.
