Abstract

The Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) was established in 1982 by Dr. Rajesh Tandon as a global centre for participatory research and training. Based in New Delhi, PRIA has a history of continuity and change over three decades. This chapter details the organization’s work in a series of phases showing how national and international political, economic, and sectoral developments from an earlier phase have influenced and shaped decisions in a subsequent phase. This history is shared with the goal of inspiring others to work together to support the capacities of citizens, communities, and institutions to embrace values of equity, peace, and justice as they work towards a vibrant, free society that serves all people fairly.
