Abstract
Evaluating findings from a content analysis and interviews with those in the upper echelons of the journalism industry in the UK, Luce explores the coverage of the Bridgend suicides over the first six months of 2008 in a sample of British newspapers. She engages with how the stories were reported, types of formats, sources used, how the stories were framed, especially around issues such as causation of suicide, suicidal method, suicide and location, and suicide and the Internet. She introduces here the issue that the Bridgend suicides became a moral panic because of fears involving the Internet and the increased use of social networking sites amongst young people.
