Abstract
This opening section unpacks the cultural and theatrical relationship between Britain and Russia in the early to mid twentieth century, and explains some of the important terminology integral to the book: terms like ‘migration’, ‘transnationalism’, ‘expansion’, ‘spatiality’, and, of course, ‘modernism’ and ‘performance’. In addition, it situates this book in three distinct subject fields – modernist studies, travel studies and performance studies – and aims to find overlaps and intersections between them, focusing particularly on the moving body as a site of cultural and artistic exchange.
