Abstract

Hanser discusses the paths to peace, when the end of life is near and the meaning of life becomes a central theme. There are many ways to peace: finding your way home; finding the way to acceptance; or finding your way through anxiety, silence, ritual, and gratitude. Legacy work through music therapy involves writing songs about these themes and about the significance of the journey. Faith’s story ends with a song that lives on well beyond her years on earth, and Hanser reminds the reader of the challenges of losing a companion along the way. The future is an uncharted journey, with both endings and beginnings, and a continuing path for music therapist and companion.
