Abstract

This final chapter summarises the key findings of the investigation into young people and levels of political participation. The teen players who are the subject of this book, the young people and the concept of political participation, are of increasing interest to politicians, policymakers and academics alike. With organisations like the Youth Citizenship Commission, discussion around the teaching of citizenship in schools and the divisive question of whether or not the vote should be lowered to enable 16- and 17-year-olds to participate in elections, there is certainly plenty for the expert and the layperson to debate. What can our politicians, policymakers and political scientists glean from this study? Should the voting age be lowered to 16 in line with a few other countries?
