Radical changes have at least one unfortunate characteristic: They are not immediately recognised as such. The Germans in particular have the tendency to bury their heads in the sand when they are faced with drastic change. They believe, with a certain air of authority that fundamental change can only come about through gradual transition. What is the point of making rash decisions when actually it is future generations who are at stake?
