Abstract

Alaska was purchased by the United States from Russia under the treaty of March 30, 1867, the purchase price having been 7,200,000 dollars. The Governor is appointed by the President of the United States for 4 years, and is assisted by a Surveyor-General, who is ex-officio Secretary of the Territory, and other officials.
