The Study of Charismatic Christianity in the English-Speaking Caribbean

  • Peter Marina

Chapter 2 introduces the Charismatic movement in the English-speaking Caribbean and provides a religious demographic portrait of the Charismatic movement in the region as well as of the world’s Christian population from both the Global North and South. A brief history of the Pentecostal movement is provided from its origins in the USA to its inception in the Caribbean. The early Caribbean Charismatic movement developed into a large institutional hierarchy in Montserrat culminating in the massive PAWI that continues to dominate the movement in the Caribbean. Recently, PAWI joined the political and economic elite of the Caribbean community taking a larger role in shaping Caribbean affairs.
