Abstract

Key Historical Events. Southern Rhodesia, like Northern Rhodesia, was originally under the administration of the British South Africa Company, but following a vote in favour of responsible government on 12 Sept. 1923 it was annexed by the UK as a self-governing colony. For the history of the period 1961–1979 including the period of unilateral declaration of independence see The Statesman’s Year-book, 1980–81, pp. 1623–25.
