Abstract
Saudi Arabia was founded by Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdur-Rahman al-Faisal Al Sa’ud, GCB, GCIE (born about 1880; died 9 Nov. 1953), who had been proclaimed King of the Hejaz on 8 Jan. 1926 and had in 1927 changed his title of Sultan of Nejd and its dependencies to that of king, thus becoming ‘King of the Hejaz and of Nejd and its Dependencies’. On 20 May 1927 a treaty was signed at Jidda between Great Britain and Ibn Sa’ud, by which the former recognized the complete independence of the dominions of the latter. The name of the State was changed to ‘The Saudi Arabian Kingdom’ by decree of 23 Sept. 1932.
