Abstract
Between Aug. and Oct. 1967 the 17 sultanates of the Federation of South Arabia (see map in the Statesman’s Year-Book, 1965–66) were overrun by the forces of the National Liberation Front (NLF). The rulers were deposed, resigned or fled. At the same time the rival organization of Flosy (Front for the Liberation of Occupied South Yemen) fought a civil war against NLF and harassed the British forces and civilians in Aden. In November the UAR withdrew its support from Flosy, and with the backing of the Army the NLF took over throughout the country.
