Abstract
REIGNING KING (SHAH). Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (bom 26 Oct. 1919) was sworn before the Majles on 16 Sept. 1941 on the abdication of his father Reza Shah Pahlavi (died 25 July 1944), who after the overthrow of the Qajar dynasty had been elected shah on 12 Dec. 1925. After the dissolution of two former marriages, the Shah on 20 Dec. 1959 married Farah Diba, daughter of an army officer. Offspring: Prince Reza Pahlavi, born 31 Oct. 1960 (Heir apparent); Princess Farahnaz, born 12 March 1963; Prince Ali Reza Pahlavi, born 28 April 1966; Princess Leila, born 27 March 1970. The Shah crowned himself and the Queen on 26 Oct. 1967.
