Abstract
Tibet, extending from Kashmir in the west to China on the east, forms a narrow enclave, between the Himalayas and the Kunlun mountains to the north. Its area is about 470,000 sq. miles; its population is estimated at about 6m. The Chinese census of 30 June 1953 gave 1,273,909 inhabitants in the ‘Tibet region and Changtu area,’ and 2,775,622 Tibetans in the whole of china. However, another l·4m. Tibetans are said to live in the Kham, Golok, Amdo, Sertha and Minyak areas. The capital is Lhasa.
